University of Mindanao

My heartfelt greetings to all of you!

The University of Mindanao is the largest and the first private, non-sectarian higher educational institution in Mindanao, Philippines. In 1946, it was founded by the late Atty. Guillermo E. Torres, Sr.. Rising from the ravages of war, he envisioned a university in the jungle of Mindanao to provide educational opportunities to many financially deprived students, particularly those from the tribal minority. From a humble beginning of 381 students it has grown to a population of 35,000 strong. From four (4) rented classrooms, it has now four (4) campuses in Davao City and eight (8) branches spread in Mindanao, namely: UM Digos College (1946), UM Peñaplata College and UM Tagum College (1950), UM Ilang-Tibungco and UM Panabo (1951) UM Guianga College (1952), UM Cotabato College (1959) and UM Bansalan College (1962).

Presently, the University brought on new status and image as evidenced by the accreditation of 14 academic programs and good performance in government licensure examinations with board placers. In addition, it has established linkages with different local and national academic institutions as well as government and non-government agencies.

Entering its sixth decade, the University of Mindanao gears toward internationalization of education which inspires and invites cultural interchange and academic and research collaboration.

A partner of the Philippine government in the education of its youth, the university continues to supply competent and qualified professionals both in the local and global markets.

Mabuhay!
